History-makers and leaders
From Robert Burns to David Livingstone, Thomas Carlyle to J M Barrie, we have the birthplaces and residences of some of Scotland’s most iconic historical figures under our care.
Scotland’s people have had an influence on all areas of society, from economics to architecture. Our places show visitors where some of Scotland’s greats made their start in the world, and chronicle their lives and
bodies of work, to inspire current and future generations.
The Hill House is Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s domestic masterpiece, overlooking Helensburgh on the west coast of Scotland. Unfortunately the external surfacing work suffers from moisture that is at risk of affecting this unique property and its collections.
The NTS is now devising a new repair approach to protect not just Mackintosh’s magnificent external designs but also to protect The Hill House’s important interiors and collections. You can help us by donating below.
